To celebrate 20 years of The Hip Hop Project we look back on some of the best moments from the longest running mix show in the country. By CosmRoks (The Voice of The Hip Hop Project, 1998-2010)
Yesterday should have been the 45th Birthday for our friend Reggie Destin. Sadly, we lost him nearly three years ago when he was killed in a skateboarding accident. Known by most as ReDe, Reggie wasn’t an MC, or a DJ. To us, he was one of our biggest supporters. I didn’t know him on a personal level, but ReDe could be spotted at just about every function THHP was a part of. My interactions with him were often nothing more than a quick word or two here and there, but they were always positive. I had no idea how big of an impact Reggie had on the skateboarding community until years after I had met him. I was introduced to him through Rude One, and Shon Dervis (pictured) and had more opportunities to have those conversations because Rude and Shon had been gracious enough to have THHP host or DJ at many of their parties from The Note to Darkroom to Empire. This particular photo was taken at our 15th anniversary party at Empire Liquors in 2010. I regret not getting to know Reggie Destin better over all the years we crossed paths, but I do know this world was a better place with him in it. Thank you, ReDe for the support over the years.
